Progress on Coronal, Interplanetary, Foreshock, and Outer Heliospheric Radio Emissions
Type II and III solar radio bursts are associated with shock waves and streams of energetic electrons, respectively, which drive plasma waves and radio emission at multiples of the electron plasma frequency as they move out from the corona into the interplanetary medium. Analogous plasma waves and radiation are observed from the foreshock region upstream of Earth’s bow shock. In situ spacecraft...
متن کاملThe radio properties of type II quasars
Abstract. Quasars (of type I) are the luminous analogs of type I Seyfert galaxies. Within the framework of unified models of active galaxies, the population of quasars of type II recently discovered with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey are the luminous analogs of type II Seyfert galaxies. Since our knowledge and understanding of the radio properties of these type II quasars are very limited, we ha...
متن کاملStructure on Interplanetary Shock Fronts: Type II Radio Burst Source Regions
We present in situ observations of the source regions of interplanetary (IP) type II radio bursts, using data from the Wind spacecraft during the period 1996-2002. We show the results of this survey as well as in-depth analysis of several individual events. Each event analyzed in detail is associated with an interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) and an IP shock driven by the ICME. Immedia...
متن کاملThe Fading Radio Emission from Sn 1961v: Evidence for a Type Ii Peculiar Supernova?
Using the Very Large Array (VLA), we have detected radio emission from the site of SN 1961V in the Sc galaxy NGC 1058. With a peak flux density of 0.063± 0.008 mJy/beam at 6 cm and 0.147± 0.026 mJy/beam at 18 cm, the source is non-thermal, with a spectral index of −0.79± 0.23. Within errors, this spectral index is the same value reported for previous VLA observations taken in 1984 and 1986. The...
